DESIGN WATCH – with the MANGROVIA DESIGN COLLECTIVE
A design watch started by Roberto Casati and Goffredo Puccetti (NYU Abu Dhabi)
Designed by Roberto Casati and Glen Lomax, Astrini is an open source software for teaching elementary astronomy. You can download the installation package. Unlike virtual observatories (Stellarium and Celestia), and unlike standard Orreries, Astrini allows you to manipulate certain parameters, such as the tilt of the Earth’s axis and of the lunar orbital plane relative to the ecliptic. Doing so creates a world without seasons and with regular, monthly eclipses. From this simplified situation, teachers/students can find their playful way out why there are seasons and why eclipses have a more complex periodicity.
HOW GOOD ARE YOU AT MULTITASKING?
Not very good, as you will discover!
Which map of Venice is the most useful? It depends – on whether you are a sailor, or a pedestrian.
The pedestrian only “sees” blocks; the sailor only sees islands. Read more on Venice Blocks on the http://www.radicalcartography.net Radical Cartography website (Work with Magda Stanova and Stéphanie Roisin).
